How can you avoid gaining weight this christmas? Christmas is always a struggle when it comes to weight loss or even just maintaining your current weight, with all the delicious festive treats around every corner.. How can you stick to a keto diet? I have a few delicious christmas keto recipes on my website to choose from, but here are a few extra tips to help keep off those christmas kilos!
How can I drink and avoid gaining weight this christmas?
- If you plan to drink, take some liver support herbs like Silymarin (Milk Thistle) before you go out and then again the next morning. This amazing herb will help to clear the alcohol out of your liver faster. I like Metagenics Phyto Pro
- Drink lots of water with electrolytes the next morning to replenish your magnesium, potassium and sodium. I tell my clients to stay away from electrolyte drinks filled with sugar, they will just start a carb craving cycle. My favourite is Revitalise as it is sugar free which i stock in the clinic.
- Try out some of my low-carb christmas cocktails on my website under ‘recipes’ including Low-Carb Spiced Pear Fizz Cocktail and my Low-Carb Gingerbread Martini.
- If you have a bad hangover, magnesium, ginger tea, vitamin B6 and bone broth can all help. I even have a “Hangover” tea blend which will help.
How can I stop myself from overeating at Christmas?
You don’t have to be super controlling about your eating at Christmas, just overeat on the good stuff and fast later! I’m not going to tell you to miss out on delicious Christmas food and live on carrot sticks this month, just have small portions of the high-carb treats like cookies and cakes. Fill up on meats, seafood, salads and fruits.
You could also try converting one of your favourite higher-carb dishes into a low-carb one. Megan Ellam from Mad Creations has lots of keto Christmas recipes that I always enjoy.
If you are already following a keto plan, it will be easy to skip a meal before or after to let your digestion and blood sugar return to normal. But if you don’t follow a keto diet, just have a small meal before and after, protein and vegetables are a good choice. Stay away from heavy fried food and too much bread.
